El uso de estos agentes está contraindicado en pacientes con angioedema hereditario o un historial de angioedema idiopático. Los pacientes con antecedentes de angioedema no relacionado con inhibidores de la ECA pueden estar en mayor riesgo de angioedema, mientras reciben un inhibidor de la ECA. Los pacientes deben ser advertidos de reportar inmediatamente cualquier signo o síntoma sugestivo de angioedema (hinchazón de la cara, extremidades, ojos, labios, o lengua, o dificultad para tragar o respirar) y deje de tomar el medicamento hasta que se lo indique su médico. De emergencia de la terapia y/o medidas para prevenir la obstrucción de las vías respiratorias son necesarios para el angioedema que implican la lengua, glotis o laringe. El tratamiento con inhibidores de la ECA debe interrumpirse permanentemente si el angioedema se desarrolla en asociación con la terapia.
