Ophthalmic receptores beta-adrenérgicos agentes (también conocido como beta-bloqueantes), en general, no debe utilizarse en pacientes con un actual o antecedentes de asma bronquial o enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica. La aplicación tópica de beta-bloqueantes se absorbe sistémicamente, con el potencial para la producción clínicamente significativos efectos sistémicos, incluso en niveles bajos o indetectables de los niveles plasmáticos. En el tracto respiratorio, el beta bloqueo puede afectar la función pulmonar en contraposición a la broncodilatación producida por la estimulación de los beta-receptores 2. Aunque los agentes beta-1 de selectividad (por ejemplo, betaxolol) se consideran más seguras en pacientes con bronchospastic enfermedades, cardioselectivity no es absoluta y puede perderse con la dosis más grandes o más niveles plasmáticos.
