Los broncodilatadores adrenérgicos puede estimular cardiovascular beta - 1 y beta - 2 receptores, lo que tiene efectos adversos como taquicardia, palpitaciones, vasodilatación periférica, cambios en la presión arterial, y cambios en el ECG (por ejemplo, aplanamiento de la onda T; prolongación del intervalo QT; depresión del segmento ST). La estimulación directa de los tejidos cardíacos está mediada por los receptores beta - 1 y por lo tanto menos probable que ocurra con beta-2-agentes selectivos, como el albuterol. Sin embargo, los beta-2-selectividad no es absoluta y puede perderse con la dosis más grandes. Las dosis altas de estos agentes han sido asociados con la precipitación o el agravamiento de la angina de pecho, isquemia miocárdica y arritmias cardíacas. La terapia con broncodilatadores adrenérgicos debe ser administrado con cautela en pacientes con sensibilidad a aminas simpático mimético, hipertiroidismo, y/o subyacentes a los trastornos cardiovasculares como la insuficiencia coronaria, arritmias cardíacas o hipertensión.
