Los receptores Beta-adrenérgicos agentes de bloqueo (también conocido como beta-bloqueantes) puede enmascarar los síntomas de hipoglucemia, tales como temblores, taquicardia y alteraciones en la presión arterial. Además, los no selectivos beta-bloqueadores (por ejemplo, propranolol, pindolol, timolol) puede inhibir la acción de las catecolaminas mediada por la glucogenólisis, potenciando así hipoglucemia inducida por insulina y retrasar la recuperación de la normal de niveles de glucosa en sangre. Desde cardioselectivity no es absoluta, grandes dosis de beta-1 selectivos agentes pueden demostrar estos efectos. La terapia con bloqueadores beta debe ser administrado con cautela en pacientes con diabetes o predisposición espontánea de la hipoglucemia.

Los diuréticos tiazídicos pueden provocar hiperglucemia y glucosuria en pacientes con diabetes. También pueden precipitar la diabetes en pacientes prediabéticos. Estos efectos son generalmente reversibles después de la discontinuación de la droga. La terapia con diuréticos tiazídicos deben ser administrados con precaución en pacientes con diabetes mellitus, intolerancia a la glucosa, o una predisposición a la hiperglucemia. Los pacientes con diabetes mellitus deben ser monitoreados de cerca durante el tratamiento con tiazidas, y sus antidiabéticos régimen se ajusta en consecuencia.
